This is a real fast post. A reader just recommended a site called PapierDog.com. It’s filled with colorful, whimsical papier mache dogs of all colors, stripes and spots by Marci Forbes. I’m so thrilled with the work that I had to make sure you all see Marci’s site.
Marci does have a few cats on her site, too, but I would definitely say she’s a dog person. She even has photos of a complete herd of real dogs on her “about” page, so you know she loves these critters.
Thanks, Karla, for sharing a great site with us.

Hi,
My paper mache begging bulldog (life size) was the most adorable paper mache (or plaster) art I have ever seen. I cried my heart out when my good friend accidentally dropped it and broke into pieces. Fortunately, I was able to salvage his whole begging face with a wishbone on top of his head. For several years I have been looking all over the place & internet for a replica/replacement but have been unsuccessful. I would like to know if you can salvage the body part and for how much will it cost me. Please help! Thank you so much!

Hi Celina. Do you have photos of the dog while he was still intact? If so, it should be possible to recreate the sculpture. The new one wouldn’t be an exact match for the old one. However, it should be possible to get very close. My new book (which will be out soon) has a project showing how to create a begging dachshund. The same techniques could be used to recreate your bulldog, with different proportions, obviously.
I couldn’t remember if I’d mentioned this guy to you all. Looks like not. Check him out. He’s really funny! I have met him (and shown with him) at the big greyhound event Greyhounds Reach the Beach in Dewey, DE.

Fun! I wonder how she’s doing the coloring? Some of it looks like the paper color, I’m thinking? Along with some sponging. Hm.
I asked my daughter Jessie, who works in oils, and she thought glazes were being used. I love the layering of color that she’s achieving.
Yes, definitely glazes layered up. Doesn’t it look like the edges of some of the spots are paper edges? Well, either way, it’s neato.
